How would you describe your company? What is the added value/specificity of your business model?

DJiT designs, develops and markets mobile applications and connected devices that are dedicated to music. Our single purpose is to make musical creation accessible to all. We are mainly known for our first product, edjing Mix, which became the no. 1 DJ app in the world, voted “Best App of the Year” by Apple and Google. Since its launch in 2012, we have developed 9 other music apps, all using the same technological base. We are now ranked among the world’s top 10 major music app editors, with over 90 million downloads in 182 countries.

Since 2015, we have also been working on developing connected objects to extend the use of our applications and our offers. This diversification was illustrated by the creation of Mixfader, the world’s first connected crossfader which makes it possible to mix and scratch with the lightest DJ equipment in the world.

Our ambition is pretty simple: we strive to create a real ecosystem of music solutions that can encompass all music usages, our specificity being that we offer compatible solutions that can be used separately or together. For instance, developing connected devices enables us to monetise our apps differently, by broadening their possibilities and their range of use.

What did you do prior to becoming an entrepreneur?

I must admit that my pre-entrepreneurship “career” was pretty short because I set up my company while still at university, studying aeronautical engineering. DJiT is actually a study project that came into fruition.

As a music fan and amateur DJ myself, I quickly realised there was no DJ equipment suited to the general public, that was both easy to use and affordable. The initial idea was to create a startup in the music field, rather than develop a DJ app. But since the Mix industry had been very buoyant for the past ten years, we decided to meet a simple need by creating the first mixing solution designed for the general public.

In your opinion, what are the key reasons for the success of a startup?

For a startup to succeed, it must bring together several criteria, the first of which is the ability to find the right funding. Every project has a cost, and however hard you try, it is impossible to pull it off without minimum finance.

You also need the right team to breathe life into the project. In a startup more than anywhere else, it is essential to be able to count on a committed, loyal and close-knit team. To attract these talented people, you must of course be able to offer an attractive project, a pleasant workspace and fast promotion prospects. Even with a good team, you must be able to rely on external partners and advice, so it is essential to have a good network and work on developing it.

Last but not least, innovation is the single most important key to a successful startup, as it is a means of setting you apart from competition while at the same time offering better client experience.
